Open Call – Dancer for Sjaddo / Skájdde Festival 2026
Invisible People Contemporary Dance invites one dancer to join the creation and performance of Sjaddo as part of Skájdde Festival 2026.
Sjaddo is a multidisciplinary stage work developed from an existing piece into a larger format for the outdoor stage at Storforsen, in northern Sweden. The work brings together movement, music, text and visual elements, and is shaped through perspectives connected to Sápmi. It is both intimate and large-scale, with nature itself as a central part of the performance.
The process takes place in close collaboration with choreographer Liv Aira and an international team of artists. The work builds on themes of connection, returning, and growing together, both as individuals and as a collective.
Work periods:
11–16 May 2026 – Creation period at Jillat – Sami Dance Center, Vuollerim
18–26 July 2026 – Rehearsals at Jillat and on the main stage at Storforsen (Älvsbyn municipality)
Performances: 25–26 July 2026
We offer:
Artistic fee according to industry standard
Travel, accommodation and meals
A focused creation period in a fully equipped dance center and a unique outdoor stage environment
About the context
Skájdde is an artist-driven festival, now in its fifth year. Each summer, it brings together around 25 artists and a similar number of volunteers from at least 10 countries. The working environment is small-scale, collaborative and based on mutual respect.
The creation process takes place at Jillat – Sami Dance Center in Vuollerim, a space designed for artistic development with studio, production facilities and nearby accommodation. The environment is intentionally non-judgmental and built to support long-term artistic work.
During the festival period, participants are part of a wider artistic context, including:
Daily classes and training
Exchanges with artists from different disciplines
Shared meals and informal conversations
Volunteer opportunities
We also offer 4 internship/volunteer positions for dancers who want to take part in the festival and production in a supporting role.
For volunteers, we provide:
Accommodation
Meals
Access to classes and the artistic environment
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a dancer who:
Is interested in collaborative and process-based creation
Is comfortable working both in studio and outdoor environments
Values being part of a close artistic team over large production structures
