Two-Week Indoor & Outdoor Circus Residency at Jillat and at Skájdde Festival – Storforsen, Älvsbyn Municipality
An immersive opportunity for circus artists to create and perform in nature during the Skájdde Festival.

About the Residency
Jillat – Sami Dance Center invites circus artists to a one-week outdoor residency at the Skájdde Festival in Storforsen, Älvsbyn Municipality. Set against the stunning natural backdrop of the Storforsen Nature Reserve, this residency offers a chance for artists to develop their circus work in a unique outdoor environment, blending art with nature.

The residency includes full access to the nature reserve, providing the opportunity to experiment with outdoor circus performance, as well as travel (within Sweden, Norway and Finland), accommodation, and food covered by Jillat. In addition, each artist will be assisted by one dedicated volunteer to support their work throughout the residency. We are applying for additional funding still and if we get that, this residency will also include a scolarship of 10.000SEK each for the period.

This residency is a perfect fit for artists wanting to explore circus performance in a natural setting, engage with a festival audience, and connect with the local community.

What You Get
Two-week residency at Jillat and at the Skájdde Festival in Storforsen, Älvsbyn Municipality. 14 - 20th in Jillat, travel to Storforsen the 21st 22- 26th of July 2026 in Storforsen, with audience 25-26th of July.
Full access to the Storforsen Nature Reserve, offering a stunning and inspiring setting for outdoor circus work. Travel, accommodation, and food fully covered, arranged by Jillat. For two persons. You can apply as a larger group to come, but we can only pay for two artists in this residency.

Help from one dedicated volunteer to assist with logistical support during the residency.
A unique opportunity to perform your circus work in front of a festival audience within an outdoor natural environment.
Connection with other artists and festival-goers, fostering creative exchange and collaboration.

Who Can Apply?
We welcome applications from:

Circus artists of all disciplines, including aerialists, acrobats, and movement-based performers.
Solo artists, duos, or small circus companies who wish to perform and create in an outdoor environment.
Artists interested in engaging with the natural surroundings and blending their work with the landscape.

Facilities & Technical Information
Outdoor space in the Skájdde Festival area, with access to natural features such as forests, rivers, and open fields.

Volunteer support will be available for any logistical help, including setup, equipment handling, and performance preparation.
Technical support for any outdoor rigging or equipment setup will be provided on request.
