Arctic Arts Summit 2026

About the opportunity
Aira Dance Company AB invites dance artists from Sápmi to apply for performance opportunities at Arctic Arts Summit 2026 in Umeå, Sweden.
The program Sápmi Moves at Arctic Arts Summit highlights choreographic voices from Sápmi and explores how movement expresses knowledge, territory, and lived experience in the north.
Selected artists will present their work during the summit as part of a curated program of performances, morning classes, and artistic dialogue.

Performance opportunities
We invite proposals in the following formats.
Mid-length performances
20–30 minutes
Suitable for established or mid-career choreographers working with contemporary dance or movement-based performance.

Micro-works
10–12 minutes
Shorter experimental works presented in a curated performance block.

One longer performance
50–60 minutes
A full-length work presented as part of the evening program.

Morning dance classes
Artists may also apply to lead morning dance classes for summit delegates.
Classes should introduce participants to movement practices connected to the artist’s artistic approach or cultural perspective.

What selected artists receive
Selected artists will receive:
presentation of their work at Arctic Arts Summit 2026
artistic fee
travel support within Sápmi / Nordic region
basic production support for the presentation
visibility within the Arctic Arts Summit program
Accommodation and travel are covered for artists traveling from within Sápmi.

Artistic context
The program engages with themes central to Arctic Arts Summit, including:
cultural sovereignty
storytelling and representation
artistic collaboration across the Arctic
Indigenous perspectives in contemporary performance
We welcome works that engage with movement, identity, landscape, language, or community in Sápmi.

Who can apply
We welcome applications from:
Sámi choreographers and dance artists
artists based in Sápmi
emerging and established artists working with contemporary dance or movement-based practices
Artists may apply with:
solo works
duets or group works
interdisciplinary performance formats

Application requirements
Please submit:
project description (max 1 page)
video documentation of the work or work-in-progress
short artist biography
technical needs and duration
