We are looking for a costume designer / tailor for a dance production. Three costumes.

About the dance production
This will be a dance performance that includes high quality stage costumes inspired by Lule Sami design, newly written music with sound images and recordings from Sápmi, conversations in an artistic soundscape become music together with newly composed yoik.

The set design is created in collaboration with a set designer who will be a modern interpretation of traditional Sami dwellings and tools but in alternative materials such as transparent fabrics that are enhanced with light and smoke effects. Technically, we are converting spaces such as gymnasiums and smaller theaters into a stage environment where our audience will hopefully not even recognize themselves when we set up.

We want to create a magical experience with sound and light effects that enhance the stories and the expression of the dance. The production will work with the dance style that Liv Aira created in her master's thesis on the encounter between Sami culture and dance. This style is score-based and influenced by release techniques in contemporary dance. The process of creation will be collective with all artists but led by Liv Aira where they will work based on the production's different themes and workshop materials and structures for each part of the performance

Early in the process, all artists will be included to create an interaction between the art forms, for example, the costumes will have a dramaturgical development just like the music and the possibility of change through the development of the performance.

In the performance, the Sámi dancers will continue to explore the journey of dance in Sápmi, which can be seen as both an old and a new expression. This can be seen as inspiring for our audience, something perhaps forgotten that is now rediscovered as a new expression. We hope to inspire everyone to be proud of who they are and where they come from. We want to spark conversations about how we grow together in a multicultural world and encourage learning more about each other. For a large part of our audience, this will probably be their first encounter with the performing arts and perhaps with Sámi culture. Having a positive experience of innovative Sámi culture together creates curiosity and the Sámi children in the audience may end up in school for the first time in the majority of the room. We want the audience to experience learning together and encourage their Sami friends and other minorities in society to dare to live out their cultures in the wider society.
