Build meaningful residencies with Jillat

Jillat works with presenters, institutions, municipalities, regions, festivals and cultural organisations that want to create strong residency opportunities for artists.

We can support the full process — from shaping the open call and selecting artists to hosting, accommodation, production conditions, artist support and follow-up. This allows your organisation to offer professional residencies even when you do not have the space, capacity or local infrastructure to host them yourself.

A residency shaped around your purpose

Every residency begins with a clear question:

Who is the residency for?
What should it make possible?
What kind of support does the artist need?
How should the process connect to place, audiences or professional networks?

Together, we shape a residency that reflects your organisation’s goals while protecting the artist’s working conditions, artistic freedom and need for focused time.

Residencies can support:

  • artistic research

  • choreography and movement development

  • rehearsal and production

  • music, sound and screendance

  • work-in-progress sharing

  • community encounters

  • professional development

  • preparation for touring

Choose the level of support

Cerification Basic Residencies.png

Basic Residency

Includes:

  • a clearly defined purpose

  • suitable workspace or studio

  • accommodation or financial support

  • a named contact person

  • practical information about access and safety

  • simple evaluation after the residency

Cerification Standard Residencies.png

Standard Residency

A more complete residency with stronger artist support.

Includes everything in Basic, plus:

  • workspace and accommodation

  • artist fee or production support

  • reasonable travel support

  • introduction to the place and local context

  • at least one professional conversation or mentoring opportunity

  • public sharing where relevant

  • documentation and feedback

Cerification Premium Residencies.png

Premium Residency

A developed production and networking environment.

Includes everything in Basic and Standard, plus:

  • curatorial support

  • technical support when needed

  • structured meetings with local or professional partners

  • planning for next steps

  • references and follow-up contacts

  • sustainability and communication planning

These levels already exist in your current material and are a strong way to explain the difference between a minimum viable residency and a more developed production process.

Transparent budgeting

We believe residency budgets should be clear enough for artists and organisations to plan responsibly.

For 2026, the current page lists indicative costs for:

  • venue

  • accommodation

  • artist scholarship

  • travel within Sweden

  • administrative services

The administrative service can include the open call, selection process, safety rider, booking and follow-up.

Need a budget for an application?

We can provide indicative costs and residency examples for one or several artists. Contact us before including Jillat in an application so that we can confirm availability, scope and a letter of intent.

Why work with Jillat?

Jillat was created to give artists professional working conditions in a rural part of Sápmi.

We believe artists need places where creation can come before presentation, places where they can research, take risks, change direction and develop work without having to arrive with all the answers.

We also believe strong residencies are built through care, clarity and shared responsibility. This means realistic budgets, clear expectations, safe working conditions, respect for access needs and a process that supports both the artist and the commissioning organisation.
