Residencies at Jillat
Time and space for your artistic work. At Jillat Sami Dance Center in Vuollerim, in the Swedish part of Sápmi, artistic processes have room to develop. Here, you can explore an idea, rehearse, try new approaches and deepen your practice. We offer workspace, accommodation and professional support based on the residency we plan together.
What does your work need right now?
A residency can provide space for initial research, an intensive rehearsal period or the next stage of a production. Jillat welcomes dance, music, performing arts and work that moves between artistic disciplines.
We begin with your process. What would you like to explore? What spaces and resources do you need? Would technical support, artistic conversations or encounters with others help your work develop? Together, we shape a working period with clear arrangements and room for the unexpected.
Space for your work
Our dance studio, amphitheatre, music studio and shared workspaces offer different possibilities for creating, rehearsing and documenting your work. Before your stay, we discuss which spaces, equipment and support suit your process.
Everyday life during your stay
Our residency house is within walking distance of Jillat, with a kitchen and shared spaces for everyday life beyond the studio. If you would like to bring your family or have specific accommodation needs, we include these in the planning.
Support for your next step
A residency can also form part of a longer process. We can discuss budgets, funding applications, potential collaborations and preparations for presentation or touring. Together, we agree on the scope of support based on your project’s needs and the resources available.

Focus, trust and clear expectations
Jillat is an artist-led place rooted in Sápmi, with exchange across languages, artistic disciplines and national borders. We aim to create an open and non-judgemental working environment where different experiences and approaches are met with respect. Before the residency, we discuss focused working time, accessibility, support and expectations. Any public encounters are planned as part of the residency, with care for the artistic process.
Encounters that can grow beyond your stay
During a residency, there may be opportunities to meet other artists, local people and audiences. A conversation, a workshop or a sharing of work in progress can open new perspectives and build relationships that continue after your stay.
